Between sea and mountains, halfway between Bastia and Bonifacio, the Costa Serena is a strategic crossroads and enjoyable for all those wishing to discover Corsica. This area will charm you with its diverse landscapes, long sandy beaches and rivers with crystal clear waters.
Ghisonaccia is located south of the eastern plain Corsica, in the lower basin of the river Fiumorbo, which borders the town about fifteen miles. Excepting a small elevated area in the north-west, almost all of the town is within 100 meters of altitude, which is exceptional in Corsica. The relief, slightly shaped, bowed north-west to south-east.
The county seat, where the majority of the population of the town, is located south of the town at the junction of the road Bastia - Bonifacio and provincial road 344 Ghisonaccia - Ghisoni. Although the town of Canton is Ghisoni, located 25 miles inland, it is here that we find almost all the shops and services: two supermarkets (three in summer), the police, firefighters, County Administrative Center, several doctors, two pharmacies, a dozen bars, hotels and restaurants, and thirty shops.
In the north-east of the village is thepond of Urbino, a lagoon of 750 hectares, the largest of the eastern plain of Corsica and the second afterBiguglia it communicates with the sea through a pass 10 meters wide, and is practiced in the shellfish andoysters. South of the pond extends Urbino Pinia field, an area swamp, whose coastline is wooded classified nature reserveand managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Farther south, between the beach Vignale and themouth of Fiumorbo the seafront is occupied by a few tourist facilities.
The north-west of the town is agricultural, partly occupied by vineyards. Two hamlets along the road Ghisoni:
- Ghisonaccia-station (Gara was in Corsica): Five miles from town, where was installed in 1880 the temporary terminus of the railroad on the east coast, some houses struggle to have a life of autonomous village, a bar, a set of balls, a cheese industry
Every year, to revive this place to meet and trade, the last weekend of November meetings are held island of expertise that bring together many craftsmen: "I Scontri di Sape u F "
- St. Anthony (Sant 'Antone or San Anto in Corsican), four miles away, at the mouth of the gorge Fiumorbo , there are a large wine cooperative winery.
